Change the game.
It’s funny how quickly things change.
Beginning in June, I was all set to pursue a second master’s degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. But when my financial aid report came in, I realized it wouldn’t cover the cost of a Big Ten graduate degree.
Back to the drawing board? Not really. In the interim, I just finished an MBA program and am interested in utilizing my newly honed business management skills. Writing, marketing, customer support, and leadership? Profitable firms in growth mode? I’m in!
A journalism alumnus of Michigan State University, I interned at The Detroit News and Free Press as a copy-editor and as a reporter. I have been published in the Wisconsin State Journal, Lansing State Journal, and several weekly newspapers. I wrote for the MSU newspaper, The State News. I even won a few Society of Professional Journalists awards.
Currently, I work as a private tutor. Returning to the academic world reignited my love for learning and for education. I’ve been lucky to study under some amazing professors who challenge students thoughtfully. Hence, tutoring.
Yup. Change keeps a-comin’.
I completed my MBA program through Broadview University. Despite what many people say about for-profit institutions, they have no idea the time and effort it takes to fulfill a degree program of this nature. Some people may breeze through it. But I assure you I approached it with an Ivy-League level of effort. I graduated with a 4.0 and won the Broadview University Library Research Award for my thesis.
I wrote my master’s thesis on the efficacy and contributions of online tutoring as a modern pedagogy. That is fancy wording for: “online tutoring is the new thing.” In my thesis, I argued for implementation of an online tutoring segment within a traditional tutoring company, offering an in-depth action plan. I loved working on this long-term, forty-two-page project. Qualitative research and analysis have become new and welcomed core competencies.
When I’m not nerding-out on tech and social media trends, I like to hang with my dog, play videogames, binge-watch Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon (“The Office,” “30 Rock,” and “Doctor Who” are some favorites), swim, read, write, sing in the car, and listen to fiction podcasts.
I want to make a difference—one sentence at a time.
